Bee Resurrection

If you didn’t already know there are three types of bees: Queens with a lifespan of 2-5 years, Maidens living for 4-6 summer weeks, and Drones 30-60 days. They all have their own purpose in their short lives, and they live in the ever present moment with zeal and in service to their hive community.

One aspect which is miraculous to me is the resurrection of the bee.

The cold and damp are not a bee's friend. In the hive, the temperature needs to be kept consistently at an average of 35 degrees, or they simply fall into a stasis and die. They only leave the hive when the temperature allows them. In winter, they may skip out quickly for a very dangerous pee break, as the cold could kill them!

A very experienced beekeeper Paul Honnigman, told me one day of a miraculous trait of bees. They could come back to life! I didn’t believe this until one day, including today, a very wet Saturday, I checked my hive and found four bees frozen on the landing board. I gently picked one up and cradled it in my hand, and providing a roof with my other hand. I blew ever so gently warm air to revive her. I tried desperately for about 5 minutes and was nearly on the verge of giving up when one of its antenna moved softly. What a delight!!!! I continued to blow warm air till she was moving her legs then I placed her in the entrance of the hive. The other three bees I also blew on gently, and as their wings fluttered, I felt my heart expand. Four resurrected! Thank you Onesness.
